Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale real estate is diverse, ranging from upscale condos and downtown high-rises to secluded homes found throughout meandering waterways reminiscent of Venice or Amsterdam but in a tropical climate. Though less than 25 miles apart, Fort Lauderdale feels a world away from its southern neighbor Miami. Rather than the latter’s position as the supercharged gateway to Latin America, Fort Lauderdale falls more in line with classic Americana and still manages to hold onto its Old Florida heritage.

Its abundance of stunning waterways strikes newcomers most. The Atlantic Ocean, Intracoastal, New River and vast canal network intertwining finger streets offer infinite waterfront opportunities for avid boaters or those who just appreciate the serenity of the view. Most daily activity from exercising to yacht clubs to dining takes place on or near the water. It’s a truly unique setting even within Florida.

Incorporated in 1911, the city steadily developed throughout the 20th century for a sweeping overview of architectural styles including Mediterranean Revival, Art Deco, midcentury-modern, 1950’s ranches and more. There are numerous exclusive communities such as Harbor Beach, Hillsboro Mile, Bay Colony, Las Olas Isles and Coral Ridge with luxury homes and condominium buildings of varying heights. Downtown’s Riverwalk has seen tremendous growth in upscale high rises with every amenity, and the oceanfront has undergone gentrification from the city’s Spring Break heyday to sophisticated, minimal designs such as the W hotel.

Elite private schools, notable hospitals and ample greenery thanks to a large park system make this a top destination for professionals, families and snowbirds. Other attractions are its thriving beachfront and downtown scenes, Las Olas’ shops and restaurants, the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, Museum of Art/Fort Lauderdale, Coral Ridge Country Club, two yacht clubs including Coral Ridge and Lauderdale, Galleria Mall, the historic Bonnet House Museum & Gardens, Hugh Taylor Birch State Park and miles of pristine beaches.

Residents appreciate shooting down to Miami for business or leisure, spending a weekend in Palm Beach or trying hot spots in Delray Beach all within an hour’s drive.
